Ash wood is very solid and flexible and has a distinctive grain. It is believed to be a symbol for life, strength and nearness to heaven – in the Germanic Edda legend, the world ash tree Yggdrasil provides sanctuary for all creatures. Ash is said to have healing properties, to be particularly effective against tension. The wood’s appearance is light and large-pored. It is particularly well suited to staining and colouring. The wood’s elastic properties combined with its hardness make ash a popular choice for sports equipment and tool handles (hammers, axes, shovels). Due to its resistance against wear-and-tear, ash is also ideal for floorboards and parquet.
